LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT By: Dave Celznick

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back previous Board members Bill Mazzolini,  Bob Richenburg and me.   Kevin Malinowski has transitioned to treasurer and Jeanne Stark continues on as secretary.  Thank You.

Awareness Reminder - The posted speed limit in Highland Park is 25mph.  The development is on the Avon Police Patrol route and from recent communication most of the fast drivers are residents of the development.  Please take the time to slow down!

Each year the Board of Managers sets goals and objectives for the following year.

2008/09 Goals are as follows:

v      Continue to achieve a balanced budget for the 2008/2009 fiscal year.

v      Awareness & Enforcement of Code and Deed restrictions including appropriate upkeep of Landscaping and Mailboxes.

v      Zero Shutdowns for the Pool in the 2009 Season

v      Playground Improvement

v      Communication thru the Highland Park Website and Newsletters.

v      Highland Park Directory Completion (on going process)

The first ten (10) minutes of each Board meeting are open to homeowners that would like to express concerns or comments to the Board of Managers. We have had a positive response to the initiative in 2008.  This allows for residents to discuss the current issue at hand with the Board face to face and adds value to the communication and resolution process.  Please call any Board member for the time and location of the next meeting if you have an issue to discuss. This is your opportunity to address the Board with your concerns.

As a general awareness reminder we are all owners of Association property.  The Board has set a high quality standard for our vendors and expects each homeowner to maintain property within the Deed Restriction and Code of Regulations requirements.   This agreement was part of the documentation each of you signed when you purchased property in Highland Park.   Thank You!

5K TURKEY DASH ON THANKSGIVING---IMPACT ON HIGHLAND PARK  By:   Bill Mazzolini

Heads up!  The 5K Turkey Dash will be held on Thursday, Nov. 27 from about 8 – 10 am.  This race, in its fifth year, has been a very successful fundraiser for the Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation.  The sponsors are expecting about 1,000 participants.  Planning efforts are underway to ensure that Highland Park residents are not inconvenienced.  The course is:  Begin at Avon High School, up Stoney Ridge, into Highland Park on Harriman Trail, then Truxton, South Park, Nort h Park, Truxton, Bellcrest, Truxton, Harriman; then back to the High School.  Highland Park’s west entrance might be closed for a short period of time (30 minutes) when the majority of the runners enter.  Our eastern entrance at Rt. 83 will remain open.  Sponsors have requested the following from us:  (1) No parking on streets during the time window; (2) Drive very slowly; (3) Watch out for runners/walkers.  A flier with additional details will be delivered by Foundation volunteers.  If you have questions or would like to volunteer, call Stacey at the Nakon Foundation (440-933-7621).

ADDITIONAL SWINGS TO BE INSTALLED IN NATURE PARK

By: Jeanne Stark

An additional swing set will be installed in the Nature Park in the playground area.  The new swing set will be the same as the swing set already there.  It will give us a total of 8 swings instead of 4.  4 of the seats will be baby “bucket” type seats while the other 4 will be traditional belt seats. This doubles our swing capacity and should make the children happy.   In addition, a Tether Ball will be installed in the same general area.  A Tether Ball is simply a ball attached to a rope attached to a pole that is batted around.  It is a quiet sport as the ball never hits the ground!  We thought this might be a welcome addition to the playground area for our non toddler children.  After all, who says only little kids get to play!  We encourage our residents to get out and enjoy the Nature Park and walking trails and playground areas.   A small investment in our common areas benefits all of us by bringing value to our homes and creating a welcoming and inviting neighborhood.

AVON PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL SPRING 2009!

By:  Derek Stapinski, Account Executive  Avon Professional Baseball

Avon Professional Baseball, the new Frontier League expansion team is ready to play ball this spring. Construction on the new state-of-the-art ballpark is moving at a rapid pace to have the project finished for Opening Day on June 2.  Once completed, the new ballpark will host 51 home games as well as high school and college tournaments, concerts, fairs and other community events. The new 5,000+ capacity ballpark, located at the intersection of I-90 and Route 611, features a variety of desirable seat locations. For the baseball fanatics, the Field Box seats, located along the first two rows of the seating bowl will put them right in the middle of the action. The four-person Terrace Tables along the concourse offer a more intimate option for fans interested in socializing as well as watching the game. The private suites and suite level club tickets provide an exclusive setting, perfect for entertaining business clients while enjoying the game.

Season ticket packages are available now and include 48 regular season home games, starting with Opening Day on June 2 and running through Labor Day weekend in September. As a special treat for fans, the team has also purchased three additional games from the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti, MI for a total of 51 home games this first season. Fans who sign up for season tickets before the New Year will receive the extra games as part of their season ticket package at no additional cost. Businesses can also get in on the action. Sponsorship and advertising within the ballpark is a great way for companies to get their name in front of more than 200,000 fans. Drawing on the team’s unique resources, packages can be customized to fit any marketing need and budget.

Frontier League Professional Baseball is about family, fun entertainment at an affordable price.  Crazy promotions, giveaways, fireworks, mascots and music are all part of the experience. Baseball fan or not, there will be something for everyone at the ballpark.  For more information on the team, season tickets or sponsorship opportunities, visit www.AvonProBaseball.com or call Derek Stapinski at 440-934-3636.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here’s a few FAQ’s received by the Board.  There’s other FAQ’s on the Highland Park website.

Q:        I am not familiar with the Highland Park Deed Restrictions and “home-grown” rules.  How

 can I learn about them?

A:        Obtain a copy of the May, 2008 “Highland Park Handbook of Rules and Information” from Carlyle Management  or from any Board member.  This booklet contains a simplified version of the Deed Restrictions, along with other Highland Park rules, some useful Avon ordinances, etc.  An official copy of the Deed Restrictions can be obtained from your builder or from Carlyle.

Q:        I am very concerned about speeding in Highland Park, especially on the long straight runs on Truxton and South Park.  What can be done to reduce this hazard?

A:         There are two aspects:  communication and enforcement.  Avon officials feel that communication and  awareness are adequately covered with the seventeen speed limit signs and twelve “slow—children at play” signs.  Please ensure that all drivers in your family are aware of and comply with the relevant Avon ordinances.  Regarding enforcement, the Board will request additional Police Department patrols and periodic use of the portable speed limit monitoring trailer.  It’s also appropriate for individual homeowners to “constructively complain” to the Police.

Q:        Can we use the Clubhouse dumpster for our dog waste or household rubbish?

A:         No, please, No!  Avon’s Ordinance in Chapter 618 requires pet owners to dispose of waste in their own proper receptacle.  This ordinance is in place for sanitation control purposes.  The dumpster at the Clubhouse is for swimming pool rubbish and rubbish from Clubhouse users.  The dumpster is not for disposal of pet waste or home refuse.  As a reminder, please pick up after your pet on other homeowner’s property, on the “common areas” and in the Nature Park.  Thank you!

Q:        Can we store our large garbage cans outside?

A:         Deed Restriction No. 10 includes the following:  “No material or unsightly matter shall be stored outside of the house….”  Although the Deed Restriction does not specifically reference garbage cans, the Board recommends that they should be stored inside the garage.  Thank you.
